Top ideas Our team’s favorite poutines

Crispy french fries, fresh cheese and a delicious sauce. It’s not quite as easy as it looks. But when it’s done just right, it’s a real treat. Sometimes, too, we fancy a slightly fancier version of poutine. Here are a few suggestions from our team!

Stéphane’s choice Boucherie La Bouchée Double Sainte-Claire

A butcher’s? A new take on a snack bar? Both! It also serves up a unique poutine every week, made with produce from the butcher’s and local ingredients.

I GO THERE FOR

THE poutine of the week, from Wednesday to Saturday! I absolutely loved the ‘cochonne’ during a pop-in visit, but I’m always impressed by their creativity. Keep an eye out for the poutine reveal on their social media on Wednesdays! Right now, I’m waiting for the Philly cheese steak to come along, but there’s a good chance I’ll give in before then too!

Sara’s choice Le Gouvernail Taverne Sportive Saint-Georges

It’s no secret – I really love this restaurant. As soon as you walk in, you feel right at home, with Sam welcoming you as if you’ve known each other for ages. And what can I say about the food! Every time I visit, I want to try something new… and that’s a problem I’m fully aware of.

I GO THERE FOR

The beef flank steak poutine – a menu staple, year after year! 4 oz of grilled flank steak, homemade french fries, cheese curds, red wine sauce and chimichurri. You have to admit, that sounds tempting!

Stéphanie’s choice Ferme Phylum Lévis

This cheese dairy and gourmet farm, where everything is made using milk from Jersey cows (A2 protein), is well worth a visit. In summer, the snack bar offers a gourmet bistro menu featuring poutine, burgers and even wood-fired pizzas – all made with their delicious homemade cheeses!

I GO THERE FOR

The classic poutine, of course – ultra-local and 100 per cent authentic! Exceptional homemade fresh cheese, perfect potatoes and a signature sauce that gives you that ‘wow’ factor. It’s the ultimate poutine for those who like to know exactly where their food comes from – straight from the farm.

Amélie’s choice La Contrebande Microbrasserie Saint Anselme

This microbrewery, nestled in the heart of the Bellechasse countryside, combines original hoppy creations with a Mexican-inspired menu to create a wonderfully warm atmosphere!

I GO THERE FOR

The menu is so colourful and varied – I’m telling you, it’s a poutine lover’s paradise. It’s so hard to choose, because every dish is a wonderful discovery. I’ll admit it – I’ve gone for the “poi boy” poutine: breaded chicken, pico de gallo, Louisiana remoulade and shallots… on a rustic, beer garden-style terrace! It feels like a world away!

Odile’s choice La boucanerie Del Tonio Sainte-Croix

Choosing my favorite of our national dish wasn’t easy. So I asked an expert for her opinion: my daughter, Livia. Her answer was immediate: “The place with the lovely terrace and the games.” I immediately thought back to the huge classic poutine she’d devored after our trip down the 132.

I GO THERE FOR

Whilst my daughter swears by the classic… for me, it’s their beef flank poutine that makes me go out of my way. The meat smoked on the premises, the sauce just spicy enough and the cheese that goes ‘squeak, squeak’… everything I could ask for in a gourmet poutine.

Sarah’s choice La Poutine d'Or Saint-Georges / Sainte-Marie

A poutine bar… what a dream! That’s exactly what you’ll find at Fromagerie La Pépite d’Or, with its unlikely poutine restaurant, which has three different branches.

I GO THERE FOR

My choice is fairly classic: lactose-free cheese and BBQ sauce. But the real fun is creating your own poutine from a choice of 14 cheese flavours, 7 sauces, 8 meats and 6 vegetables!
