Located just 20 minutes from Quebec City, the Lotbinière area, bordered by the majestic shores of the St. Lawrence River, offers a unique combination of rural charm and modern attractions. Here are the secrets of this area, where the food is divine!

Lotbinière: A corner of paradise between the river and the land!

Lotbinière charms as much by its nature as by its rich heritage. Its best-known treasure? The Domaine Joly-De Lotbinière, one of the most beautiful gardens on the continent. It’s a place I’ve been lucky enough to visit in the past, and which I highly recommend. This time, I took a different route, discovering gourmet treasures and secret spots nestled along country roads.

We're off on a roadtrip that's sure to make your mouth water!

To get your discoveries off to a good start, I suggest you visit a few local producers. On site, you’ll be able to taste the best of Lotbinière’s terroir.

Stop 1:Fromagerie Bergeron is a must for locals and visitors alike. They have several cheeses that have won awards over the years, including Louis Cyr and Fin Renard. Good news for the lactose-intolerant: you’ll be able to taste all their cheeses, since they’re all lactose-free by default.

Stop 2.Le Canard Goulu was founded in 1997, and has an established reputation. We go there for its famous duck rillettes with foie gras, which are ideal to add to a gourmet picnic.

Stop 3.Kiosque des Grands Jardins for their superb selection of seasonal fruits and vegetables. I highly recommend their strawberries – which are also used at La crémerie d’Élodie in their succulent strawberry sundae.

Stops 4. & 5. If you’d like to round out your stay with some alcoholic beverages, La Charloise and Oxymore Microbrasserie are the places to go.

Stop 6. For lunch, treat yourself to a chic picnic in completely enchanting surroundings at Parc de la Chute Sainte-Agathe.

Tip:as you’ll have visited a few local producers, take the opportunity to pick up some gourmet products for your riverside picnic.

Two impromptu stops... A guaranteed feast!

Stop 7. For dinner, we meet up at Boucanerie Del Tonio. I fell in love with their homemade smoked meat and decadent mac’n’queso. Special mention must go to the chicken drumsticks smoked on site, a real delicacy.

Stop 8. For a meal on the go, without breaking the bank, go to Casse-croûte de la Côte.

I was totally seduced by their poutine, which was worthy of the best canteens.

Stop 9. End the day with a stroll along Quai Lotbinière. Here, you’ll have the chance to watch a magnificent sunset over the St. Lawrence. A peaceful moment awaits you.

Comfort, charm and a swimming pool: what more could you ask for?

Stop 10.La Maison Normand, a bed & breakfast and boutique, is the ideal place to set down your suitcases during your stay in the region. This charming B&B is sure to please with its tastefully decorated rooms. And don’t forget your swimsuit – the pool is a great place to cool off on a hot summer afternoon.

We hope we’ve inspired you to visit Lotbinière’s hidden treasures!
