For our first stay in the Chaudière-Appalaches region, what could be better than the enchanting Bellechasse area and the must-see Lévis sector? We’re off to discover this beautiful region on a nature and gourmet getaway!

Day 1: Cycling the Cycloroute de Bellechasse

Bellechasse by bike between picturesque villages and agricultural landscapes

This nature getaway in the Chaudière-Appalaches region begins with the Cycloroute de Bellechasse. We chose to cycle the Saint-Henri – Saint-Anselme sector, which is flat and safe, and offers many wonderful discoveries.

Notably, the “vélo hors l’ordinaire” wall in Saint-Anselme, a reminder of Bellechasse’s railway past. Or the Pont des Amoureux, which crosses the Etchemin River on an old iron bridge.

But our favorite part of the cycle route was the gourmet stops to sample local specialties!

Discover local beers at La Contrebande Microbrasserie

La Contrebande Microbrasserie and its brewed beers, a detour you won’t regret. If you try their beers, you’ll love them! The “Session” beer with raspberry, cherry and lime is a real treat.

The terrace overlooking the Bellechasse countryside is our favorite feature of this bike stop, perfect for quenching your thirst and filling your belly.

Camerises St-Philippe, a little blue fruit full of surprises

After passing through the pretty village of Saint-Anselme, we made a stop at Camerises St-Philippe to discover this uniquely flavored little fruit!

On site, co-owner Denis took the time to talk to us about his various products, including cherry wine, liqueur, kombucha and cherry-infused gin. These products can of course be tasted on the bucolic terrace.

Incidentally, we loved the story behind their famous “Saisie38” gin. We’ll say no more, you’ll have to come and see for yourself…

Day 2. Hiking in Parc du Massif du Sud and agrotourism in Bellechasse

Parc du Massif du Sud, a natural gem in the Chaudière-Appalaches region

On our second day in the Chaudière-Appalaches region, we explored the Parc du Massif du Sud. Having slept on site in a Mega-POD, we were ready early for the joys of hiking.

We tried out the Abris-sous-Roche route, a 4.3 km trail between caves, caverns, faults and mountain panoramas. It’s been a long time since we’ve had so much fun on a hike with all those ladders to climb!

Visit to the Fromagerie fermière Cassis et Mélisse

Stretching your legs at Parc du Massif du Sud is sure to work up an appetite. Just the thing, a visit to the Fromagerie fermière Cassis et Mélisse with its wonderful organic goat cheeses is on the afternoon agenda!

Cassis et Mélisse is a great place in the Chaudière-Appalaches region to practice agrotourism, with a visit to the goat farm, the Jovial Café, the boutique or simply a stroll around the farm in its rural setting.

Gourmets as we are, we opted for the tasting platter with several goat’s cheeses, faisselle and a salad with garden produce topped with feta cheese. Special mention for the goat’s milk iced latté, simply exquisite!

Dinner at Pub de la contrée and Bellechasse microbrewery

There’s no shortage of good places to eat at the foot of Parc du Massif du Sud, in the village of Buckland! For dinner, we headed for the Pub de la contrée et microbrasserie de Bellechasse.

What really stood out for us was the fact that the origin of the products (local at most) is always indicated on the menu. In fact, we treated ourselves to cheddar-based grilled cheeses from a local cheese factory and two mead drinks from Cru d’Abeille in Lévis. As we used to say, it’s all about going local!

Day 3. Two must-see addresses in the Lévis area

The spectacular Parc des Chutes-de-la-Chaudière

We leave the rural, agricultural sector of Bellechasse for the not-to-be-missed Lévis area, where good addresses also abound.

Starting with the impressive waterfalls of Parc des Chutes-de-la-Chaudière. At a height of 35 m, they can be seen from various lookouts, each offering a different view.

Don’t miss the footbridge over the river. A thrill guaranteed!

Les Bleuets du Vire-Crêpes

Last but not least, Les Bleuets du Vire-Crêpes. Ice cream, beverages, pastries, savoury coffee… the possibilities are endless when it comes to enjoying blueberries for a day.

August is U-pick blueberry season. A first for us, and the perfect way to round off this gourmet nature getaway in the Chaudière-Appalaches region.

We left with full bellies and heads full of memories.
