I’m lucky enough to live just off Chemin Vire-Crêpes in Saint-Nicolas, in the western part of Lévis. This road is home to a number of agricultural producers known as Chemin de la Fraîcheur. One business the whole family is particularly fond of is Les Bleuets du Vire-Crêpes. We can go there to eat delicious breakfasts in their café, to buy all sorts of beautiful blueberry products in their boutique, but we most often end the day with a good ice cream.

Ice cream on a summer's evening... and you feel like you're on vacation!

I’ll always remember our first end-of-day ice cream at this place. Often, on beautiful summer evenings, my parents would call and ask if we wanted to go somewhere for ice cream for dessert. One evening a few years ago (it was 2015 I remember, Flavie wasn’t even a year old), they suggested we try the new Bleuets cremerie at Vire-Crêpes. Go, let’s go! Once there, I immediately felt like I was on vacation, even though it was the middle of the week. I felt like I was completely away from home, as if I were finishing my day in peace, away from the daily grind.

Softness and freedom: a paradise for young and old!

Not only is the site magnificent, but another factor that takes a lot of stress off parents is the vastness of the estate at the back, far from parking lots and cars. Ice cream, coffee or dessert in hand, adults chat quietly while the kids race back and forth across the fields, burning off what energy they have left for bedtime.

Ice cream to die for... and a touch of deliciousness to boot!

And I haven’t even mentioned the ice cream, which is simply delicious! There’s something for everyone, from soft serve to homemade gelato. The latest addition, a berry and blueberry marble, is delicious, and if you’re feeling greedy, you can add some by dipping it in chocolate!

When the warm weather returns, it's a date!

Today, this simple activity just a stone’s throw from home has become a family tradition, if you can call it that. It’s a way for us to get away from it all and get together for a moment to enjoy the outdoors in a magical place.

Every spring, when the fine weather returns, we eagerly await the date when the Bleuets du Vire-Crêpes creamery reopens.

One thing’s for sure: we’ll be eating lots of ice cream again this year!

 Also...

If you’d like to make the most of your evening on site, be sure to try the Bleu & Gourmand foodtruck, open Thursday to Sunday, offering meals concocted in the flavors of Vire-Crêpes, before your dessert. Also keep an eye on their Facebook page for special evenings with music and guest artists.

 Precious traditions and memories

Finally, here are two versions from my now grown-up Léanne, who has been loving Bleuets du Vire-Crêpes for several years now! To be updated next summer, she’s now 12!
