I honestly think that what makes me happiest in winter is cross-country skiing. Every week I feel the need to get on my skis, whatever the weather, whatever the conditions, wherever and however long it takes. You can talk to my boyfriend about it, he can hardly wait for the snow to melt! All joking aside, it’s essential for my physical well-being, but even more so for my mental well-being. I don’t need to go fast, I just need to get some fresh air.

 A passion for cross-country skiing

So I can tell you that I was really looking forward to a day of cross-country skiing in the Parc du Massif du Sud with my fabulous colleagues. I’ll be very, very honest, the conditions that day were pretty disastrous(you know when the snow sticks too much under your skis, you understand).

Fortunately, it was so much fun. The temperature was mild and my heart was light. In the morning, I set off, coffee in hand, remembering how beautiful our region is.

Exploring the Parc du Massif du Sud

My colleague Richard and I skied a moderate 12.7km loop on the multifunctional trails C-D-F-D-C. At the end of trail F, and after a good climb, we took a break at the Base Camp refuge (open to the public between 8am and 4pm), before retracing our steps to complete the loop.

Once the loop was complete, we had dinner by the fire in the Pavillon Desjardins (link in french). In the afternoon, the big snowflakes arrived and we took advantage of the opportunity to head for the Bassin sector via the E trail. We went there to see the PODs and take a few photos.

My colleagues spent the night there and enjoyed the peace and beauty of the area. Imagine waking up a stone’s throw from the cross-country ski trails. It’s bliss!

 See you soon!

But as a young mum, I returned home at the end of the day with a cup of hot tea waiting for me in the car. The road was even more beautiful than it had been in the morning, with a few rays of sunshine at the end of the day. That’s all I needed to feel totally happy and refreshed. The nature and tranquillity of Parc du Massif du Sud are so good. I can’t wait to go back with my family for a perfect weekend!
