 The season's activity

September has just arrived and we’re already feeling a little nostalgic for the vacations! And yet, it’s still the perfect time for a day or weekend getaway to make summer last!

 The season's activity

One of the season’s must-sees is apple picking. For me, one of my favorite places is Saint-Antoine-de-Tilly, one of the most beautiful villages in Quebec, full of finesse, detail and color, with its old-world charm on the banks of the river. On leaving the village, take the road leading to Verger de Tilly, a family-run business offering over 25 varieties of apples on 10 hectares. The site is beautiful and vast, and the employees are warm and passionate, making you feel welcome like family. You can also bring a picnic to enjoy the site for longer, or grab a bite to eat at La Confrérie microbrewery to accompany your tasting.

 To each his own

Children’s favorite: the tractor ride through the apple trees!

Parents’ favorite: the terrace area to quench their thirst with chilled craft beers (and homemade apple juice for the little ones).

We also shared hot pretzels and stuffed olives, but had a big spot left over for dessert.

 A touch of Brittany...

So it was with our mouths watering that we headed for Du côté de chez Swann. An authentic Breton crêperie (the owner hails from Finistère) housed in a superb barn steeped in history, now redecorated in a seaside ambience where sky-blue shuttered window frames stand out against the white walls, mermaid tears have been plucked to make waves in the windows, and wicker baskets overflowing with hydrangeas are laid here and there. The open-plan kitchen whets our appetites, and it’s a renewed spectacle to watch the cook making pancakes on the biligs.

As we wanted to prolong the summer, we took our place on the flower-filled terrace to share gourmet crêpes: apples and cheese, strawberries and Belgian chocolate, berries and salted caramel, then chestnut cream (reviving a succulent childhood memory of a year spent in Paris with my parents).

A delight for the taste buds, with crispy buckwheat and butter delights!

The place also offers savory crepe meals, as well as their own beers from collaborations with local microbreweries. These beers are totally in the Chez Swann spirit, with their maritime visuals of lighthouse, sea, seagulls and nautical stripes.

It’s a place to take your time, unplug from the daily grind, savour a cuisine that brings people together, enjoy the river breeze while dreaming of Brittany, and feel like you’re on vacation the moment you step inside!
