A memorable fatbike outing at Les Sentiers de l’Inconnu

I’m not sure it’s not that well-known, but as far as I’m concerned, there’s no problem with it remaining unknown!

 Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire, here we come!

My girlfriend and I had been wanting to try a new place for a fatbike outing for a while.

– Where are you taking me again?
– To Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire!
– Where?
– To the Sentiers de l’Inconnu!
– Where?
– To the Sentiers de l’Inconnu at Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire! I admit I don’t really know where it is either, but it’s a little village south of Montmagny… We put the fatbikes on the bike rack and off we go!

 Friendly staff!

Arriving at the welcome chalet, we check in for the day (a warm welcome, we like that!). We’re given a map of the fatbike trails with more detailed instructions from the attendant to guide us on our outing.

– Here, on the descent (pointing to the spot on the map), we had deer crossing the trail this morning, so be careful, it might get a bit rough… And these are early-season conditions, so the last section is still too soft, so it’s not open yet. Otherwise, everything’s beautiful and the scenery is magnificent… Have fun!

– We can’t wait to have fun! Thanks.

The Geai gris refuge, a great spot!

We stopped at the refuge le Buché and had a great meeting with Richard, patroller for Sentiers de l’Inconnu and fatbike enthusiast, who talked to us about the state of the trails today and the history of fatbike development in this area.

We set off again, heading for the Geai Gris refuge, where we’ll take a short break outside for an energy bar… You can rent the refuge if you want to extend the pleasure.

 A beautiful playground

We have fun on the way back, especially on the La chienne à Jacques trail and the chaud lapin trail… another stop at Le Buché… for another energy bar break inside.

Back outside, we watched the jays eating out of the hands of the cross-country skiers.

With the La Bête noire and Buck fever trails closed, we covered just over 13 km. For a first outing this winter, it was just perfect. We’ll definitely be back to discover the other sector before the end of the season, when the colder nights will harden the trails and provide more optimal conditions.
