With its extensive programming and accessible facilities, the Musée maritime du Québec is more than ever a must-see attraction in the Chaudière-Appalaches region, and in Quebec as a whole, as a contemporary museum institution.

Descend into the belly of the Ernest Lapointe

Imposing, sturdy and noble, the icebreaker Ernest Lapointe tamed the icy waters of the St. Lawrence and made history in the process. During her 37 years of service, this official vessel of the Canadian government lived through many noteworthy adventures.

See the Hivernage / Ukiitillugu Exhibition

Immerse yourself in the heart of the long polar night, in these Arctic archipelagos where Captain Joseph-Elzéar Bernier and his crews forged special bonds with Panikpak, Tom Kunuk, Arnaurjaq, and an entire people rich in traditional knowledge.

Enjoy privileged access to one of the most intriguing rooms of all: the model storage area, featuring the largest historic ships in miniature format!

In this exhibition, discover some twenty small wooden boats that bear witness to our past and the traditional know-how of our ancestors. Learn more about this important mode of transport with its many surprising functions.

Racines de mer 2026

Did you know that the museum holds more than 15,000 ancient artifacts and documents in its storage and archives? The “enchanting” Roots of the Sea exhibition showcases a beautiful selection of these, including a grand piano leg from the Empress of Ireland that was recently restored by the Quebec Conservation Centre.

    On the first Sunday of the month, the museum’s indoor exhibition halls, as well as tours of the museum ships and the model ship collection, are free for visitors 19 and under.
