Located in Saint-Joseph-de-Coleraine , south-west of Thetford Mines , 3 Monts offers hiking trails for all levels of hikers, open year-round. For me, I went for a visit last March. With snowshoes strapped on my feet, I took to the trails of 3 Monts. I started with the circular trail that leads to the summit of Mont Oak. From the top of this mountain, I could see the numerous frozen lakes that melted into the landscape surrounding Coleraine.
I then continued my hike up towards the summit of Mont Kerr. The spikes under my snowshoes proved very useful, as the climb to reach the summit of this mountain was a little more abrupt. The view that I got when I reached the top was simply extraordinary. A mining landscape covered in snow was spread out before me. I could even see the district of Black Lake in the distance and could make out a part of the city of Thetford Mines hidden behind the shimmering white dunes. I took the time to lie down in the snow and admire the view. In spite of the cold and wind, the view made me forget that my nose was red and screaming for warmth.
You don’t need to be an expert hiker, as 3 Monts is accessible for everyone. You’re sure to have fun and you might even get the urge to return for another visit like me!
