The first word that comes to mind when I think back on my visit to Marc Côté’s stone sculpture gallery and garden is “well-being”. The weather was good, the light magnificent, the welcome warm, it was the countryside at its best.

On a beautiful summer Wednesday, I hit the road for vacation with my colleagues Richard and Stéphanie. We headed for Marc and Marichka’s home in Cap-Saint-Ignace, where we were welcomed with open arms. They live in a charming house just off the Route des Navigateurs. As soon as we arrived, the first thing that caught my attention was the beauty of the garden, its wide variety of trees and flowers and, above all, its artwork. I’m all smiles, finding the place calm, observing and soaking up the energy of the moment.

Meanwhile, my friend Stéphanie is taking some wonderful pictures. There’s so much beauty to photograph.

Scope: the stone, the work, the artist

Listening to Marc talk about his passion is an experience in itself, as each sculpture has a story to tell. Marc’s stone sculptures are exclusive, original, refined and modern. The art form of stone carving is unrivalled in bringing to life your interior or exterior décor, whether modern or antique. Marble (Ontario, Vermont, Brazilian), limestone, sandstone, granite and more are the noble materials used to create these sculptures.

Marc Côté was named a “sculptor of international stature” by the art journalists of National Geographic Traveler, in their March 2008 issue. The pavilion, which serves as a gallery, is home to some thirty indoor sculptures, while the unrivalled splendour of the garden is dotted with thirty sculptures of varying sizes.

This is how Marichka and Marc describe the garden…It’s a secret garden where graces and goddesses reign, where stones become flowers. It’s an intimate gallery where femininity, sensuality and voluptuousness come together.

The visit ended with coffee and cookies. I can confirm that we met proud ambassadors of our beautiful Chaudière-Appalaches region. Thank you, Marichka and Marc, for your warmth.

And to you, dear reader, the couple wanted to say “We look forward to welcoming you to our paradise”. You’ll see that it’s absolutely true!
