Sun, SUP, and lobster rolls: a memorable day in Berthier-sur-Mer

Sylviane Lord

In my job, I sometimes swap my office for the great outdoors. Every job has its good points – and its not-so-good ones! And coordinating a photo shoot at Berthier-sur-Mer is one of the good ones. Here’s a look back at a great day’s work by the water.

A gentle start to the day

I recruited male extras for this shoot. Hooray! My brother-in-law Steve was easily persuaded, seeing a great opportunity to spend some quality time with his son Loïc, who invited a friend to join us.

To get our day off to a good start, what could be better than a nice bakery that smells of fresh bread? Located in the heart of the village, Le Joyeux Pétrin pays great attention to its ingredients – and to its customers. Here, you can feel the love of a job well done. Sitting on the terrace, with a nice hot coffee in hand, I had a feeling it was going to be a very pleasant day.

 Paddle boarding on the river

Then it’s time for adventure! Direction: the beach at Berthier-sur-Mer. Steve was a little apprehensive about the idea of paddleboarding on the river, a first for him. Fortunately, Vincent, co-owner and certified instructor of Orange SUP, took the time to explain everything to us: the equipment, the safety rules and some good advice. Set in a bay, the beach at Berthier-sur-Mer is a perfect playground for SUP, making it fun and accessible to all.

Loïc and his friend had a great time, even getting on a board together and standing up at the same time. As for Steve, he managed to stay upright on his board, despite the fear of falling off – or worse, ending up soaking wet!

The Casse-croûte du Capitaine and the river park

Located right next door to La Plage Motel, Casse-croûte du Capitaine is a great way to recharge your batteries after a day on the water. You can eat on site with a superb view of the river. And I really think we chose the best table!

In the afternoon, we took advantage of the river park, a place where there’s no shortage of space. The boys headed off to explore the mound, while Steve and I made ourselves comfortable on the grass. The heat made us want to take it easy, while the youngsters went for a swim in the river. From the shore, we could admire The Vent des Îles sailing towards the archipelago. The timing was perfect to capture some superb shots.

L'Amiral: The spirit of east coast lobster shacks

You can’t leave the park without sampling the menu at L’Amiral (link in french), which embodies the spirit of the lobster shacks of the Atlantic coast. A relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff, tasty food and a seaside feel. With its generous garnish, the lobster roll lived up to its reputation.

The sunset put the finishing touch to this pleasant ‘working day’ 😉
