How about a real break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life? Start by closing your eyes and imagining that you’re on an island all to yourself, right in the middle of the St. Lawrence river, far from the hectic pace of the city. It’s not a dream, it’s Île du Cheval! Nestling in the Isle-aux-Grues archipelago, this nugget is a veritable haven of peace where untouched nature meets modern comforts. Get away from it all with this little treasure of our beautiful region!

 Come on board!

The adventure begins as soon as you arrive at the Quai de Montmagny, where you’ll be met to start your journey. The crossing, which lasts around 15 minutes, is made by boat by the fabulous Île du Cheval team. Keep your eyes peeled during the cruise, as you may spot various species of Quebec wildlife, as well as a unique view of the other islands in the archipelago.

Accommodation on the Ile du Cheval

As soon as we landed on the island, it was off to Le Dortoir, our refuge for the next few days. This historic building, once home to seasonal hunters, has been completely transformed to offer an exceptional accommodation experience. Le Dortoir is a cosy luxury chalet with four separate bedrooms, each with a queen-size bed.

I particularly appreciated the terrace and its fireplace, offering a magnificent view of the river – the perfect place to recharge your batteries after a busy day.

The successful marriage of the owner’s vintage finds and modern materials is sure to charm lovers of design and architecture.

What to do during your stay on the island?

Whether you’re here for a whole holiday or just one day, there’s something for everyone. For beginners, paddle boards, canoes and kayaks are available, allowing you to explore the island from a totally different perspective.

Hiking enthusiasts will be delighted to learn that there are several signposted trails throughout the island. Each one offers a breathtaking perspective of the place.

For the ultimate in relaxation, you can also contemplate the flora and fauna, as the island boasts a huge variety of both.
