Everyone in the family loves to skate. Sure, there’s the neighbourhood rink, but between you and me, there’s nothing like skating in the woods. Every year, we look forward to the opening of the skating trails at Bleuetière Goulet. Kilometers of trails in the middle of the forest, perfect for playing hide-and-seek or chase. Taking skating to the next level!

The perfect day for outdoor skating

As parents, we find ourselves a little short of ideas for entertaining our children and, above all, getting them moving. We find it hard having to plan what we’re going to do several days in advance and having to make reservations. With three children, many factors come into play and we like to be able to decide what we’re going to do on the day itself or the day before. We’re like that at home, often last minute, on the spur of the moment! This morning, we checked the Bleuetière Goulet Facebook page and got confirmation that the trails would open at 10am today. The great thing about this place is that no booking is required… Yes! Yes, the weather’s nice and we’re tempted, so let’s pack our bags and head for Saint-Frédéric in Beauce!

Once there, the heated building was just perfect for putting on your skates. What’s more, the skating trails are right next door. How convenient! Out the door and off we go!

Skating in the forest on high-quality ice

All along the trails, we are right in the heart of the forest. At the start, we’re surrounded by snow-covered fir trees. Further on, a new section of the trails takes us into a maple grove, where there are even small slopes, adding to the excitement (and the screams) of the children! The ice is of excellent quality, maintained with a zamboni. After a good hour and a half of skating, we relax by the fire. The children are tired, and we tell them how proud we are of them. After all, they skated for an hour and a half without stopping!

For us parents, it’s proof that this activity was a perfect choice. Everyone wins! We had a great time, the kids are exhausted and they’re likely to be pretty quiet in the afternoon!

 Filling up before leaving

Before we leave, we make sure we stop off at the shop. There you’ll find all sorts of great products, including spirits, homemade products, regional products, soft cream, pizza and more.

To reward everyone (including parents), we decided to end the adventure by picking up some good pizza to take home for dinner.
