Outdoor shool break: two perfect activities

Frampton and Lac-Etchemin
AU QUÉB

The long-awaited time to get away from it all and spend some quality time with the family is (finally!) just around the corner! You can of course take advantage of the school break to relax… but you can also set off to discover the best uncomplicated activities in the Chaudière-Appalaches region. And at home, it’s definitely the latter option that we prefer!

We’re taking you with us to two of our favorite spots in the region. You’ll see, it’s the perfect way to rediscover your inner child with your little ones!

 First activity: Miller Zoo

It often seems that zoo trips are reserved exclusively for the summer season. But think again: you can visit Miller Zoo (link in french)during two winter periods! School break is one of the two winter periods when you can spend a completely magical day at this zoo like no other in Beauce. Just under an hour from downtown Quebec City, you’ll be lucky to be able to enjoy this site with your family. And yes, yes! Animals, even savannah animals, love winter.

As soon as you arrive, you’ll be given a map of the zoo showing the wide variety of animals present. In winter, some of them are sheltered from the cold, but that won’t stop you from being impressed by the animals you see. You can still enjoy the whole site and the wildlife reserve, and even visit the African Pavilion, the Exotic Pavilion and the Tropical Greenhouse.

Pssst! Did you know that Miller Zoo is recognised as a rehabilitation centre for wild animals? And it’s run by none other than Émilie and Cliff, the friendly (and passionate!) owners we have the great pleasure of following on television in the TV show : Un zoo pas comme les autres.

 Second activity: skiing at Mont-Orignal

Our second must-do activity for the spring break is definitely a trip to Mont-Orignal (link in french)! We often skied there with our parents when we were younger, and now it’s a great pleasure to bring our children along and hurtle down the same slopes. We’re still having so much fun!

Whether you prefer skiing, snowboarding, hiking, cross-country skiing or snowshoeing, there’s certainly something for everyone. What we particularly like about this resort is the family aspect of the mountain. It’s clear that children are very welcome here, with slopes that are perfect for little legs just starting out, and glades for older children looking for a challenge. And the huge snow park never lets you down, with its many jumps and rails!

Facing south, it’s the ideal mountain for enjoying the sun (when it’s shining) and spring skiing. Watch out for tan lines on your goggles, aka the racoon style!

In conclusion, school break promises to be a totally exciting time, thanks to the multitude of activities available here in the Chaudière-Appalaches region.

Whether you’re spending it outdoors, like us, or looking for indoor activities, the important thing is to spend time together as a family and have the time of your life!
