I’m filled with happiness. During my last winter visit to the Parc du Massif du Sud, we did the classic climb to the summit of Mont Chocolat. This time, we’re exploring another part of this winter sports paradise, with snowshoes at our feet!

 The Parcours des Ravages trail

Today, we’re all looking forward to the Parcours des Ravages trail, a 9 km hike. This route takes us into the heart of moose habitat. We won’t have the chance to see any during our outing, but we’ve been spoiled otherwise!

This trail has a vertical drop of 468 m and we were advised to do it anticlockwise to make sure the climb was a little easier. We’re in contemplative mode after all! And off we go!

As we gain altitude, the trees start to become increasingly laden with snow, and everyone is delighted! Sounds promising!

 Planet Snow

Along this trail, you’ll pass right by the area dedicated to hok-skiing (the petite coulée sector). By the way, the park offers a number of guided outings to introduce you to ski-hok. My colleague Sarah and her boyfriend tried it out a few years ago. We also bumped into some mountain skiers on our outing, and to be honest, it really makes you want to try this activity! Two areas of the park are dedicated to mountain skiing.

From there on in, it’s indescribably beautiful. The snow that had fallen so heavily the day before gave us sublime scenery. It’s like being on another planet. Planet Snow!

And a few kilometres before the final descent, an opening in the forest gives us a superb view of the mountainous terrain.

 For anti-clockwise

On the way back, when we start the descent, we’re glad we chose to go anticlockwise because we realise it’s slightly steeper.

 Sick!

I’m still not sure whether it’s the fresh snow covering all the trees or just the fact that this outing is so recent, but I really enjoyed this hike in the Parc du Massif du Sud.

Just enjoyed it?

Well, no, it was sick!
