A hockey tournament away from home? Why not take advantage of the opportunity to get away with the family and sleep in a cosy loft?

 All the family amenities

At the beginning of January, Laurent, our youngest, had a hockey tournament in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, his first away from home. So I seized the opportunity to find us a place to sleep so that we could combine the event with the pleasure of discovering warm and welcoming places! My criteria: a kitchen, enough space to play board games, read, spread out the hockey bag and a field big enough to get some fresh air and enjoy the winter.

I’d been wanting to discover the B&B Le Canadien for a long time, so this was the perfect opportunity for us to book their Loft, which is located right next door to the B&B, this majestic ancestral house dating back to 1793 and carefully restored by owners Sylvie and Yves.

With the tournament schedule, it was only possible for us to arrive later in the evening. So arriving at the cottage on our own was perfect, so as not to disturb the owners with our late arrival.

Fresh air, encounters and a basket of fresh eggs

Early in the morning, the girls and I decided to go out and explore the 18-hectare estate. Outside, we met Sylvie and Yves, the friendly owners, who took the time to greet us and tell us their story, that of the restoration of their home since 2010, which led to the opening of the gîte in 2021.

While Yves introduces us to his horses, Ianna and Kansie, Sylvie heads off to the henhouse and returns with a basket of fresh eggs for lunch.

Fresh air and fresh eggs, the perfect combination for a great start to the day!

After spending a good part of Saturday at the arena, the return to our little cocoon was much appreciated. On the menu: a good dinner, board games and reading before a well-deserved deep sleep.

 A relaxing Sunday

What I like about Sundays is that we get to take our time. As the tournament was over for Laurent’s team, we made the most of the morning before heading home.

A relax coffee, a hearty lunch with the rest of the eggs and a little trip outside to enjoy this heavenly corner of the countryside one last time. We took the opportunity to stretch our legs with Laurie, the owners’ affectionate dog.

 Always by the 132!

On the way home, as usual, we avoided the motorway and took the Route des Navigateurs all the way to Lévis to admire the beauty of the villages and the St Lawrence in winter, while stocking up on food in our favourite shops. Beers from Ras L’Bock for Marc-André, coffee from Bonté Divine for Stéphanie and pastries from Boulangerie Sibuet for the whole family.

See you soon, Le Canadien! We’ll definitely be back, this time in summer, to enjoy your warm welcome and your beautiful in-ground pool!
