A 24-hour winter day in Beauce for Ange and her family

In March 2024, during this strange winter, there was little snow and the weather was mild, but in the city it was more grey than white. So we were really looking forward to escaping to the countryside for a brief 24-hour getaway in the Beauce, to discover the Aventuria base camp.

 Reconnect with your childlike heart!

Aventuria ‘s ‘family holiday camp’ spirit won me over straight away!

Modern, simple and comfortable chalets set in enchanting natural surroundings, with just enough facilities, but not too many. Tyrolean traverses all over the site, what a great idea for reconnecting with your childlike heart!

When we arrived late on a Friday afternoon, the light was particularly warm! We took a moment to settle in, while the children snacked on the last rays of daylight dancing off the wooden walls. With the cottages on a promontory, it was as if we were on a mountain overlooking the village of Saint-Jules. Through the tops of the tall spruce trees, you could see the church steeple, and hear the echo of a hockey game being played on its forecourt. It was a warm, friendly village welcome.

A festive moment in the forest!

We then planned an active and rejuvenating happy hour in the forest, on the skating trail of Bleuetière Goulet, just a few minutes away. It was a unique evening, with torchlight, where we were able to walk the 6 kilometers through the woods, dance to the music, relax by the fire and taste their creation of hot maple gin and homemade apple juice (because they also have a maple grove, orchard and distillery on site) in a snow bar created for the occasion. It was a truly delightful experience, just like the festive hospitality of the Beauce!

 Fondue and crêpes package!

We returned to the chalet with our lungs full of fresh air and our bodies happy to have had a good stretch before dinner.

And, what luck, we had chosen the all-inclusive package for dinner and breakfast the following day (I was particularly grateful to have this break from meal management during our getaway).

So, in short, a generous Chinese fondue was waiting for us in the fridge, with all the accompaniments we wanted, carefully prepared: parmesan fondue as a starter, green salad, rice salad, baked potato, bread baguette, vegetables and meat to dip in the broth, sauces and dessert. Fondue is always a winning recipe for extending the time spent at the table with the children, so we were able to chat, laugh and eat well before going to bed.

That feeling of flying through the forest!

When we woke up, large light flakes were dancing outside. There were plenty of windows, so we could appreciate the beauty of the winter landscape with a cup of hot coffee in hand. In these enchanting surroundings, the day got off to a perfect start, at a holiday pace.

We enjoyed pancakes with syrup and orange juice, before going our separate ways to read and wander around the chalet. At around 10am, Justin, our guide, was waiting for us to take us on a discovery tour of the park’s aerial and zipline trails. Please note that, depending on the age and size of the children, not all the activities are accessible, but the site is magnificent and perfect for free play in the forest, which is what our boy and I were able to do while our daughter and her daddy explored the aerial trails.

Family favourite (accessible to all aged 4 and over): the 2 long zip lines leading from the forest to the village. The feeling of flying was exhilarating and the children wanted to do it all over again!

 Mexican flavours in Beauce!

On the way back, we were starting to feel a bit peckish. I had one stop in mind, a Mexican restaurant-grocery that I’d heard good things about. At Maria Razo’s, it’s easy to savour small dishes with authentic Mexican flavours: flautas, tacos, guacamole, nachos, ceviche and so on. The scent of travel, the colourful decor, the Latin music, it’s a nice change of scenery in Ste-Marie.

So it was after a few mouthfuls of churros set to a Daddy Yankee video that our pleasant 24-hour escapade in the Beauce came to an end.
