Top Ideas Gravel riders, ladies and gents! Marilyn has done the legwork for you. Now it’s your turn to give it a go!

There are quite a few gravel tracks round here. So we asked Marilyn, a local girl and a real pro at this sort of thing (3rd in the Ghost of the Gravel race in Alberta, no less!), to put together some routes for us all over Chaudière-Appalaches. And to whet your appetite, she’s sharing her four favorites with you!

Notre-Dame-Auxiliatrice-de-Buckland The Buckland

Just one ride this summer? Make it this one. Designed by the team behind the La Buckland sur Gravelle race, this 130 km loop ticks all the boxes: a substantial elevation gain, breathtaking scenery and well-deserved gourmet stops.

SHE’S GOING FOR

Riding in the mountains, between the Massif du Sud (14$ entry fee), Mont Bonnet and Morne à Giroux!

Saint-Sylvestre Lotbinière – Thetford Loop

A 42-kilometer route between Saint-Sylvestre, East Broughton and Saint-Pierre-de-Broughton to celebrate what we do best round here: maple syrup. Maple groves, forests and open fields follow one another along a route with a noticeable elevation gain. Sweet, but by no means a walk in the park!

SHE’S GOING FOR

The Appalachian hills ablaze with autumn colours. A setting that’s well worth the detour (and the aching muscles).

Saint-Jacques-de-Leeds Appalachian Loop

74 km between Saint-Jacques-de-Leeds and Kinnear’s Mills – and, quite frankly, it’s something out of the ordinary. A waterfall, wind turbines stretching as far as the eye can see, and the village of Kinnear’s Mills with its three church spires towering over the landscape. A unique ride in an area that’s just as unique.

SHE’S GOING FOR

The ever-changing scenery along the route, and the reward waiting at Saint-Jacques-de-Leeds: a cold beer at the Griendel Brewery. You pedal faster when you know what’s in store!

Sainte-Aurélie The Etchemins Loop

Warning: mosquito repellent is essential. This 105-km ride through the woods, running alongside the US border, is anything but a Sunday stroll. Far from everything, far from everyone – just you and the forest. And a few mosquitoes, of course.

SHE’S GOING FOR

To feel alone in the world, in the best possible sense. Just her, her bike and the untamed wilderness as her playground.
