Domaine Taschereau-Parc Nature - One of Mathieu’s favourites!

Venture into a flood plain at the heart of the Chaudière river!

The Chaudière river can be considered like the backbone of the Chaudière-Appalaches region, as it winds through the centre of the region from end to end, linking the sectors of Beauce  and Lévis . The Chaudière is renowned for regularly breaking out of its banks during the spring thaw. Come learn more about this impressive river at Parc nature du Domaine Taschereau  in Sainte-Marie . Maybe you’ll get seduced by the charms of this extraordinary park too!

During my visit to Domaine Taschereau at the end of last spring, I really liked the idea of transforming a flood plain into a publicly accessible nature park. During my time there, I had the chance to take a walk on the newly completed elevated wood structures. Rising 5 metres up into the air, these elevated wood boardwalks allow you to access and walk through the park even during the spring big floods. But watch out, the record flood levels in this park have already exceeded the height of these wood structures, having reached up to 5 metres high! Quite an impressive river! And like me, you too can learn more about the intriguing Chaudière river with the various interpretive panels located along the walking trails. Also learn more about the birds and wildlife that make this plain, the most flood-prone park in Quebec, their home.

A ground-level network of 6 kilometres of hiking trails has also been developed. The trails are accessible at any time during dry times. You can also take a walk on the trails in winter, as well as enjoying snowshoeing on the network of 6.5 kilometres of trails, and all this absolutely free!

Located only a short walk from downtown Sainte-Marie , in the heart of the city, Domaine Taschereau is a must-see attraction in the region, both for enjoying the outdoors and for learning more about flood plains and the intriguing Chaudière river, no matter what the season!
