Last June, Tourisme Chaudière-Appalaches invited me to become their Islander Tourist as part of their Tourist Wanted contest. A unique opportunity for me to discover even more of our beautiful province and its well-kept secrets at the heart of its largest waterway, the Saint Lawrence River.
And so, near the end of summer, I departed on an adventure, with a camera and a knapsack in hand, to destinations that were predetermined by their team. A diversified and well-scheduled getaway that brought out the epicurean, the contemplator, the curious and the adventurer in me!
This contest trip marked the start of my summer holidays and was perfect for disengaging myself from the job and falling for the charms of our beautiful region. Our region is chock-full of destinations with stunning landscapes and a myriad of activities, each as unique as the next. I really enjoyed the objective of this contest, which was to discover go-to places and attractions of all kinds within the tourist region of Montmagny and the Islands. The different activities that I could try out were not all necessarily on my to-do list of escapes, but each of them were still able to seduce my appetite for exploring and discovering new places.
I will remember my visit to Grosse-Île for a long time, a place that is commonly referred to as quarantine island. I was always fascinated by some of the dark moments of history and the hardships that citizens of the day had to overcome. You could say that I got my fill! It was like a trip back in time where you felt immersed in the experience, which was imposing and dark, but also filled with hope and generosity. A not-to-be-missed experience, as it’s a part of the history that surrounds us.
Isle-aux-Grues, an island that goes hand-in-hand with freedom, wind-swept hair and summer memories! Whether you go for the day or spend the night in a teepee, make sure to add it to your planned list of discoveries. My highlights: the fields of purple flowers that go on forever on the eastern part of the island, our long and winding journey on vintage bikes, the local products that I could try out here and there and my comfortable night in a charming teepee back at the edge of the woods.
A big thank you to Tourisme Chaudière-Appalaches for letting me experience this magnificent stay; thanks to your generosity and to that of all your partners. Your strategy for seduction has succeeded! Long live your unique and inspiring contest!
